Judges and coaches set their own prices through SmartCoach, which is automatically paid by the riders through the website. These earnings can either be put on to your credit card or sent directly to your bank account. All of the payment information is handled by our website, meaning you never have to chase clients for payment, or remember who owes you what!
We’ve had many people asking what they should charge, as riders are only paying for a very short amount of time from you! A good rule of thumb is to divide what you would usually charge for a one-hour lesson (excluding any travel or arena fees) by 6. This way you are being paid for the equivalent of 10 minutes of your time, which would easily be enough to cover the amount of time you spend on each riders’ video. This is not a strict rule though – just charge a price that makes it worthwhile for you!
You are able to change the amount that you charge per lesson through our website at any time, so don’t stress about getting it wrong! You can use trial and error to find a price that makes it worthwhile for you, while being affordable enough that riders will want to train with you.
What costs do I face as a coach or judge on the website?
Coaches and judges are required to pay a monthly subscription of $5/month, which only kicks in once you’ve earned your first $50. This means that it is impossible to make a loss through our website when you first start out – if you experience low demand for your services then you will not be required to pay a subscription!
We also charge a small fee of $2 per video you complete, to cover the credit card transaction fees.
These are the only two costs you will face through our website. It is risk-free to join – you don’t pay a subscription until you’ve earned at least $50 and you only pay a video fee if you’ve completed a video, meaning you will have earned lesson fees, so it is impossible to make a loss when you’re starting out!
Are my bank details and credit card information secure?
We use a payment processing company called Stripe to store your information and process all payments. More than 100,000 businesses use Stripe; including Shopify, Squarespace, and Pinterest. Stripe has been audited by an independent PCI Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) and is certified as a PCI Level 1 Service Provider. This is the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry. This means that you can rest easy knowing that all of your sensitive information is in extremely good hands!
